THE ULTIMATE DOOM: Complete plus Episode IV Thy Flesh Consumed Review

THE ULTIMATE DOOM: Complete plus Episode IV Thy Flesh Consumed

As I mentioned in my review of DOOM 3, I recently got the video game bug and I set out to play some classics. First on my list was the DOOM series. So I sat down and in a couple of hours had played through DOOM. To me, this game married a couple of fun elements (although I don't know if it was the first, Wolfenstein might have done this), the first-person shooter and the collection games like Metroid. At the end of each level you're presented with your stats, and I don't know about you, but I play levels over and over until I've found 100% of all kills, items, and secrets. Although I don't know of any bonus for doing this, I'm just a little obsessive about details. In terms of game play, I was happy at how well this game holds up. It is simple but still challenging, especially if you play some of the more difficult skill levels and there is loads of replay value as you try and collect all the items or shave time or use less ammo or play with a higher difficultly level, etc. I've always found the plot to be intriguing, this was why I was so happy with DOOM 3. Even though it only took a few hours to play through the whole thing, I found it very exciting none-the-less, and it reminded me of the several days it took me the first time, when I was a youngin'.

GT Advance Championship Racing Review

GT Advance Championship Racing
Average Reviews:

GranTurismo on a handheld. That's the analogy everyone uses, and Advance GTA lives up to that comparison.
The game is spectacular. It features plenty of sporty cars and a bunch of those quirky Japanese cars, like the Daihatsu Cube. However, the gameplay is where the game shines.I was skeptical about how well the game would work with the limited number of buttons on the Game Boy Advance, but the game compensates wonderfully and each button is used very well. This game definately is one with a more difficult learning curve than most Game Boy Advance games, and once you get into Middle Class (which may be renamed for the US version, GT Advance), difficulty increases a lot. That's not a bash of the game, because the Middle Class tracks are very do-able after a few tries, but expect a jolt from the difficulty level of Beginner Class tracks.
I only have two criticisms of Advance GTA.One - The sounds are tedious and more often than not, I just turn off the speaker. The engine roaring just isn't realistic, and since most of the time in the game you're in a tight turn, the squealing tires are just irritating. Two - the sprites of the cars, while they are vey realistic looking, have a tendency to pixelate and break in the middle of turns. It's difficult to describe, although those who have played the game have probably noticed it.When you turn your car, the entire sprite breaks into pieces. It's very annoying, but hopefully this problem will also be resolved in the US version.
However, these are just annoyances. The game is awesome. It's extraordinarily addictive. If you're a fan of realistic racers like GranTurismo and you have or are getting a GBA, you can't pass this game up!

Duke Nukem 3D Review

Duke Nukem 3D
Average Reviews:

Duke Nukem, while nothing more than a mindless shoot'em-up, is perhaps the best of its kind.It has a very fast engine! It runs very smoothly even on my relatively old computer and using the full screen. The scenery ismore realistic than the dungeons of Quake and Unreal.Instead, you'refighting in the city with grovery stores, subways, sewers, and theoccassional nuclear facility.
The foul language, sexual induendo, andrude comments can be funny, but for those concerned about young minds, youcan turn it off and keep it off with a password. The surround soundeffects are engaging, especially if you have a good set of stereo speakersor headphones.
The game also has the capability of multi=player gamingwith computer-controlled players, but they are very fast.It is supposedto be useful for testing user-created maps, but they can prevent a realchallenge.
The Duke gets my endorsement, especially for the speed, sound, and real-world setting.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Review

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't even know where to begin to tell you about GTA: Vice City. Do I begin with telling you how great the graphics are? Or do I tell you how much stuff there is to do here? Or do I tell you how freakin' entertaining the whole thing is? There is so much to cover with this game that it would take me more than my 1,000 word limit to tell you everything, so you will have to settle for this:
I will break it down in categories.
GRAPHICS - The game is gorgeous. Remember how cool GTA3's Liberty City was? Well Vice City is better - and prettier. You've got the sun shining, you've got the beach, you've got beautiful blue water, and you've got bright city lights at night. Oh yeah, and palm trees. These graphics will make you wish you were in Miami.
SOUND/MUSIC - The game's sound is great. The music...well, I'm not a huge 80s music fan, so I could live without most of the radio stations. I loved how in GTA3 all of the music was original, and I loved every one of the stations. However, every time I get into a car in Vice City, I usually find myself changing the station to KChat or the public radio. But hey, if you love Michael Jackson, Bryan Adams, Run DMC or even Ozzy Osbourne, you're in luck because their songs are all featured in the game, along with a ton of others.
GAMEPLAY/REPLAYABILITY - So what do you feel like doing? Do you feel like making the big bucks? Then follow the blip on your radar to the nearest head mission. Do you want to make a small amount of cash but try for a record (and get rewards, as well)? Then you can choose from the following: Ambulance missions, fire truck missions and vigilante missions go a little way to help you redeem your bad self, while giving you some quick cash. Other things you can do is deliver pizzas, drive a taxi, and deliver "ice cream" (this is only after you purchase the Ice Cream factory). Plus, there are tons of Rampage missions scattered all over the city. Once you make enough cash, you can start purchasing different properties around the city, which is convenient because every place you purchase gives you an extra saving area (whereas GTA3 only had 3 - one in each part of the city). Another thing you can do to make some cash is to participate in assorted events at The Stadium. For anyone who wants to know how to do this, go to the stadium when the game clock is close to 20:00. When the clock reaches that time, the Stadium's doors will open up and when you enter the building, you are entered in whatever contest is going on that particular day. As for the main missions, there are a whole lot of them. I have noticed, at least so far, that these missions are a tad easier than the ones in GTA3. But I'm not complaining, since I never have finished GTA3 because I got so annoyed with it. Hopefully I will be able to finish this one, but I can guarantee that to get up to the full 100% is going to be mighty difficult, even if you finish all of the main missions. This is because there is just so much to do in this game. The replayability is extremely high, seeing as though the game is so open-ended. If you keep failing at a mission, you can just take some time off and do whatever your little bad boy heart pleases. This way, you can still play the game and accomplish stuff, even when you're stuck on the main story. And by the way, the game's cut scenes are some of the best I have ever seen - or heard. The "acting" is superb - maybe because they got a real actor (Ray Liotta) to do the voice of the main character.
Okay, so what am I forgetting? Probably a lot. I will submit my review and then something else will come to mind that I will feel I should have added. But I've gone on for too long, so I will just wrap it up by saying this: I was hesitant to spend the big bucks on this game; I figured I would wait a few months for the price to drop. I based this hesitation on the fact that I own GTA3 and am extremely annoyed with it. But I was in a money spending mood, so I bought it regardless. I am so glad I did. This game is worth every cent you have to pay for it. It will provide you with hours and hours of enjoyment, and you will most likely become an addict. I know I have. In fact, I'm surprised I was able to tear myself away from it long enough to write this review.

DOOM II: Hell on Earth Review

DOOM II: Hell on Earth
Average Reviews:

Well i have been playing this game since it came out, and i must say that this game is excellent. By todays standards the graphics are really bad but that does not matter, this game is just really fun, just running around killing zombies and demons with cool music in every level. I think the first doom was better but this game is still great, and i think its better then doom 3.

Tides of War Review

Tides of War
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this game in Canada, and have never seen it sold in the United States. It's an RTS game for the player to command one ship, and sail through an alternate world with nations somewhat similar to the real world. The player completes missions, and is assigned to (usually) larger ships with greater responsibility at the beginning of each mission, while monitoring supplies of ammunition, food, "luxuries" for the crew, and treasures captured. The player must also allocate crews to various duties, such as manning the sails, manning the guns, repairing the ship, and Marines duty.

The player is sent on missions in a very open-ended "world," in which the player can engage in naval battles, raid ports, sink ships, trade, explore, turn Pirate, and have a great time! I could waste HOURS playing this relatively simple game.

The one glaring weakness in this game is that it has set missions for the player to complete, and the player cannot SAVE the game mid-mission. This is really a disappointment, considering how open-ended the game's world is, and how much exploring one could accomplish if not limited by time. This would almost be the only game I played if I could find a way to save my missions and not have to commit to (sometimes) hours for each one.

Racing Mania (Need For Speed 2, Road Rash, NASCAR Road Racing, Superbike World Championship, Andretti Racing, Sports Car GT) Review

Racing Mania
Average Reviews:

This is A six pack of EA racing games that I guess no one would buy alone. They all have terrible graphics and gameplay. NEED FOR SPEED 2- Bad graphics, hard to control cars, and A confusing menu (See my individual review).
SUPER BIKE The bikes are far to easy to crash, and the opposition is way to tough. Bad graphics here to.
SPORTS CAR GT Graphics are A little better here but still not much. The cars are hard to control here to.
NASCAR ROAD RACING Same problems here plus you cant remap the controls and for some reason A is accelerate and Z is brake.
ANDRETTI RACING Same deal as all the others, and the nascar part of the game is an exact copy of the Road Racing game. Plus you cant even select your car it randomly gives you a car.
ROAD RASH A stupid game where you hide your moterbike through the city, run over pedestrians, and knock cops off their bikes. very much rated T. And all the graphics are 1D FLAT!!
Overall very dumb DONT get it.
